ISD reported that the teenager was inspired by the attack on two mosques in Christchurch, New Zealand (Christchurch mosque shootings) in 2019, in which 51 people were killed. Kishore’s plan was to attack two mosques on the anniversary of the Christchurch attack on 15 March.

Singapore. A 16-year-old teenager of Indian origin has been detained under the Internal Security Act (ISA) last month for allegedly planning an attack on Muslims in two Singapore mosques. According to the news, the teenager is a citizen of Singapore and is a Christian Christian. He was reportedly planning a knife attack in March on the anniversary of the attack in Christchurch, New Zealand.

The Department of Internal Security (ISD) on Wednesday did not reveal the identity of the teenager to the media, stating that he is the youngest accused under custody under ISA for terrorist related activities. ISD was quoted as saying by Channel News Asia that it was the first person arrested in Singapore, inspired by the extreme right wing ideology.

ISD said that the teenager was inspired by the attack on two mosques in Christchurch, New Zealand in 2019, in which 51 people were killed. The department said that Kishore’s plan was to attack two mosques on the anniversary of the Christchurch attack on 15 March this year. ISD said, ‘The teenager himself became staunch and was attracted to the maliciousness and violence towards Islam.’

According to the release, the accused Kishore watched a live-streamed video of the attack on two mosques in Christchurch on 15 March 2019 and read the manifesto of the attacker Brenton Tarrant, who was touting the perceived superiority of the white race. The ISD said, “The accused teenager also watched the propaganda videos of the Islamic State and came to a thrilling conclusion on the basis that the Islamic State represents Islam and Islam calls upon its followers to kill non-religious people.” The ISD said it was ‘clear’ that the way Kishore planned and prepared the attack was influenced by the Tarrant and its manifesto. According to the department, Kishore had planned to attack the Ashyafa Mosque and Yusuf Ishaq Mosque which is close to his house. According to ISD, the investigation so far found that he was planning alone and so far there have been no signs of any other person to motivate him for the attack.

According to the information given to the media, in late November intelligence information of Kishore’s intentions was received and he was arrested on 26 November under ISA but issued with a custody order on 23 December.
