OP Nayyar started his career in 1949 as music director, composer from the film ‘Knees’. His first film as a musician was ‘Aakash’. OP Nayyar was the most expensive musician of his time. Nayyar Saheb once lived up to what he thought. The biggest example of this is that he never worked with Lata Mangeshkar. Lata Mangeshkar’s voice was never heard by Nayyar Saheb. This is the reason why despite singing music in 73 films, he never sung a single song from Lata ji. At the same time, using the variation of Asha Bhosle’s voice, OP Nayyar made her a singing star.
Let me tell you that OP Nayyar loved watching English movies. He was so impressed with the style of Hollywood that he also started wearing a hat, which became his signature style. During the fifties, All India Radio banned OP Nayyar’s music as more modern and inspired by Western culture. Nayyar Saheb did not mind even a little bit of this and kept making more than one tune, which turned into superhit songs.
Nayyar Saheb was known for his stubborn and rebellious nature in the industry. His nature remained with him till his last time. On 28 January 2007, he said goodbye to the world.
