The Congress government was formed in Uttarakhand for the first time in 2002. Then Harish Rawat used to be the President of the State Congress. In the second assembly elections of 2007, Rawat also led the campaign. Even after going to the government, the performance of the Congress in 2007 was much better. At the same time, despite being a minister at the Center in 2012, Harish Rawat campaigned fiercely and gave power to the Congress. But, the 2017 assembly election was nothing short of a bitter hug for him.
Uttarakhand’s first digital radio station ‘Oho Radio Uttarakhand’ launched, CM inauguratedHarish Rawat had contested from 2 assembly seats while being the Chief Minister in the last election and he had a crushing defeat in both the seats. Also, the Congress was also reduced to only 11 seats out of 70. If we look at the history of the Congress in Uttarakhand, Harish Rawat was fielded only once in the assembly elections and was defeated badly. Harish Rawat himself also believes that his experience also says that it is in his and Congress’s interest to fight instead of contesting elections.
