Glacier sheds in Chamoli, many people feared flowing

Chamoli On Sunday, a huge glacier burst from Pang Village, 24 kilometers from Joshimath, causing a sudden flood in the Dholi River. The Rishi Ganga Power Project has suffered heavy losses due to glacier flooding. Along with this, some suspension bridges have also come in its grip. Apart from this, dam side barrage site of Tapovan Vishnugadh hydropower project under construction of NTPC is also reported to be damaged. The administration has alerted the people living along the banks of the Alaknanda River and the Dhauli River, they are being asked to move away.

Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat has expressed deep concern over the incident of breaking of glacier ahead of Joshimath. He has appealed people not to pay attention to any runoff. Also, information has been taken from the Secretary and DM Chamoli of the Disaster Management Department. The Chief Minister is constantly monitoring the entire situation. The government has alerted all the concerned districts. Officers and employees of Chamoli District Administration, SDRF have reached the spot. People are being appealed not to go to the banks of river Ganges.
