GP Bahuguna, the arrangement officer of the state guest house Dam Kothi, says that in this 180-year-old kothi, from the country’s President Pranab Mukherjee, foreign guests have also stayed. Apart from this, special guests of the country and the state often stay here. There are many other Alishan guest houses and hotels in Haridwar but Dam Kothi is their first choice. He told that Dam Kothi used to be the residence of Probe Kotle, an official of the British Government. Kotle also constructed the Ganga Canal going from Haridwar to Kanpur, which fulfills the irrigation needs of a large part of Uttar Pradesh apart from Uttarakhand today. There is a heritage which needs to be protected. Therefore, Dam Kothi is being renovated at a cost of about 1 crore 80 lakh from Kumbh Mela Fund. Soon, Dam Kothi, which has historical identity, will emerge in its new form. Dam Kothi of Haridwar is one of the oldest guest houses in the state. The responsibility of this building is with the State Property Department. Soon the Dam Kothi will emerge in a new form and will be re-established in Haridwar as a new identity.
