Rome. Archaeologists in Italy have discovered an ancient-Roman Ceremonial cart (Car) from a villa outside the ancient city of Pompeii, buried beneath the ground. This vehicle was used during a special festival or ceremony. The city of Pompeii in Italy was submerged under the Lava due to a volcanic eruption in 79 CE. The Ministry of Culture of Italy has described this vehicle as a unique discovery. Made of iron, bronze and tin, this four wheel car is almost completely preserved. The vehicle has been discovered near the stables of an ancient villa in Civita Giuliana, 700 meters north of the walls of ancient Pompeii. Massimo Osna, director of the Pompeii archaeological site, said the vehicle was the first car of its kind ever discovered in the area.

He told that in the search till now we have found only the vehicles carrying passengers and luggage. This is the first time we have got a car to attend a special event. This is an extraordinary discovery that advances our understanding of the ancient world. He told that this vehicle was used during the festive moments of the community like parade and procession.

In ancient times, about 13000 people lived in Pompeii, located 23 kilometers southeast of Naples. The entire city was covered with hot lava and ash due to a volcanic eruption equivalent to an atomic bomb in 79 CE. The team of archaeologists has reached almost two-thirds of this ancient city spread over 165 acres.
