New Delhi. Professor John Mallard, a UK medical physicist who played a key role in bringing Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) technology to the world, died on Friday. He was 90 years old. Aberdeen University regarding the death of John Mallard

Through MRI, the entire body is scanned and the disease is detected. Professor John Mallard was leading the team that is credited with developing the MRI machine. This is the first such technique in the world through which success was achieved in scanning the entire body and later it proved to be extremely special in medical science.

Many serious diseases including cancer, dementia are being detected and treated through MRI technique. Not only this, it also helps to treat the injuries caused in the internal parts of the body by exposing it through this machine. John Mallard is also known for positron emission tomography (PET) imaging techniques. He was the first to master it. PET is a technique that detects diseases in the human body by preparing a 3-D image of the functional processes of the body.

Prof. who made important contributions in the world of medical science. Mallard has been awarded the OBE on the birthday of Queen Elizabeth II of Britain. He was also awarded the ‘Freedom of the City of Aberdeen’ award in 2004.
