New Delhi: After bank employees, now LIC employees will also be on strike today. Employees of LIC (Life Insurance coporation) are opposing disinvestment, due to which a strike has been announced. This strike is for a day. Let us tell you that this government company was started in the year 1956 and currently around 114,000 employees work in it. Apart from this, there are more than 29 crore policy holders.

The central government had announced the launch of LIC IPO in this year’s budget. Apart from this, the disinvestment target was raised to raise Rs 1.75 lakh crore by selling stakes in PSU and Financial Institutions, for which the government announced the privatization of two banks and a public sector insurance company.

What is the government’s plan?Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said that apart from IDBI Bank, two public sector banks and one general insurance company are part of the government’s disinvestment plan in FY 2021-22. The government will finance social and development programs with the funds raised through disinvestment.

How much is the present value of the company?
According to experts, the current value of LIC will be around 12 lakh crore rupees at this time, out of which the government is planning to sell 10 percent share. The government will collect about 1.2 lakh crore rupees through disinvestment. Employees are opposing them. Apart from this, 74 percent are also opposing FDI.

Bank employees protested
The central government has merged about 14 banks in the last four years, against which 9 unions under the banner of United Forum of Bank Unions went on strike on 15 March and 16 March. About 10 lakh people participated in this strike.
