FSSAI has issued new rules for companies selling bottled water
From April 1, such water bottles will not be able to be sold in the market, which will not have a BIS mark. The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has issued new rules for this.
The rules will come into effect from April 1, 2021. FSSAI has sent a letter in this regard to the Food Commissioners of all states and union territories. In this, they have been asked to make the BIS certificate of companies making bottled water mandatory. This directive will come into effect from April 1, 2021.
License required before starting the business- The FSSAI said that under the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2008, it would be mandatory for all food business operators (FBOs) to obtain a license / registration before starting any food business. The regulator said that under the Food Safety and Standards (Restrictions and Restrictions on Sales) Regulations, 2011, any person can sell packaged drinking water or mineral water only after the BIS certification mark.

BIS is also required for license renewal- Not only this, BIS license will be necessary for renewal of license also, license of companies without showing BIS license will also not be renewed. Also, only after getting the BIS license, the Food Business Operators operators will be able to fill the annual returns online. These orders of the FSSAI will come into force from 1 April 2021.
