The ministry had launched a new module for online registration of jewelers and purity testing cum hallmarking centers. Through this, the online system of registration of jewelers and renewal of registration was introduced. Along with this, an online system was launched for the recognition and renewal of the Assaying and Hallmarking centers of gold jewelery, on which jewelery traders can register online only.

The ministry had said that the online modules would facilitate trade for jewelers and entrepreneurs who have set up hallmarking and assessing centers or who want to set up them. There will also be a big jump in the number of hallmarked gold jewelery and crafts. It is estimated that this number can go up to 10 crores from the current level of 5 crores. For this, the number of assessing and hallmarking centers will need to be increased. At present there are 921 assessing and hallmarking centers in 234 districts of the country.
