Success Story: Passed 12th from Biology to become a doctor, but later changed his mind and later became an IAS after taking Maths.
With the intention of becoming a doctor first, he passed class 12th with biology subject, then felt that he should become an engineer rather than a doctor. So he did engineering by taking maths in college. During his college studies, the student came into politics and then decided that now he has to become an IAS. This is the story of Shivam Pratap who became IAS with 56th rank (air-56) in 2017 batch from Himachal Pradesh cadre. Shivam says that sometimes you think something, and being is something different. Let’s know the journey of Shivam till becoming an IAS: hails from kashipur in uttarakhand Shivam Pratap hails from Mawadabra village of Kashipur in Uttarakhand. His father is retired from Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) and mother is a primary school teacher. His elder sister Shivali Pratap was an MBBS doctor and was preparing for MD. During that time he died in a road accident. Now he is the only son in the house. Wanted to be a doctor first and then an engineerShivam first wanted to become a doctor. For this, he passed 10+2 in Biology from Army School, Kashipur. After that his intention changed and after this he left Biology and completed his studies in Electronics and Communication Engineering from Pantnagar University in 2013 with Maths subject. student politics changed direction During his engineering studies, Shivam was associated with student politics. First in 2011 he became the General Secretary of the student union and then in 2012 became the student union president. It was from here that both the condition and direction of his career changed. They felt that they were not made for engineering. They have to do something for the society. Then he decided that he would go to the Civil Services. In 2013, he also got a campus placement in TCS, but he did not join.
IAS made in third attempt After completing engineering, Shivam started preparing for UPSC from 2013 itself. Shivam made his first attempt in 2014, but was then able to clear the pre. Made second attempt in 2015 and reached the interview. After this, the third attempt was made in 2017 and this time he was successful. His All India rank was 56 and thus he became IAS in the 2017 batch. Shivam gives full credit of his success to his parents and his brother Abhishek Kumar Singh. With his service, he is providing free IAS coaching to 2200 children under an NGO ‘Protsahan’. Shivam and his father donate half of their salary for the children’s coaching. Apart from this, every year in the name of his sister, 12th class toppers of UP and Uttarakhand are given ‘Dr. Shivali Singh Incentive Award.
