Sao Paulo. Lionel Messi has won every title for Barcelona during his illustrious career, but his dream of winning a big title for Argentina is still unfulfilled. Messi is now 33 years old and he has probably the last chance to fulfill this dream by winning the Copa America football tournament. This star footballer is determined to fulfill his unfulfilled dream this time. Argentina will start their campaign in the Copa America against Chile in Rio de Janeiro on Monday. Brazil was handed the hosting of the tournament at the last minute after Colombia and Argentina were dropped from co-hosts.
Messi said at a press conference in Rio, “I am always available for my team. My biggest dream is to win the title with my national team.” He said, “I have come close to it many times. It didn’t happen but I will keep trying. I will leave no stone unturned to fulfill this dream.
However, Argentina will not get a chance to play on their home soil. Argentina and Colombia were the joint hosts of the Copa America at first, but were later dropped from hosting for various reasons and Brazil was given the responsibility of organizing it. Lionel Messi and his team can also get some benefit from this, because there will be no pressure on them to play at home.
Argentina finished third in the Copa America 2019, but the team has improved a lot since Lionel Scaloni took over as coach. Argentina’s team is no longer completely dependent on Messi and has other match-winning players as well. Two groups of five teams each have been formed in the tournament. Group A consists of Argentina, Bolivia, Uruguay, Chile and Paraguay while Group B consists of Brazil, Colombia, Venezuela, Ecuador and Peru. The Copa America has started on Sunday. Apart from Colombia and Ecuador, matches have been played between Venezuela and Brazil. Colombia defeated Ecuador 1–0 in their opening match of the Copa America football tournament, aided by a goal from Edwin Cardona. Cardona scored the crucial goal in the 42nd minute which proved decisive in the end. The World Cup qualifying match between these two teams was won by Ecuador 6-1 seven months ago.
At the same time, Brazil started their campaign to retain the title in the Copa America football tournament by defeating Venezuela 3-0. Marquinhos, Neymar and Gabriel Barbosa scored for Brazil in a lyrical match played on Sunday at the Mane Garincha Stadium in Brasilia. A day before this, many Venezuelan players were found positive for Kovid-19. Eight Venezuelan players were found positive for Kovid-19 on Saturday and had to call 15 new players in a hurry. Its effect was clearly visible on the field as well. Brazil also missed some chances but did not get a special challenge from Venezuela.
