Irrigation officers will have to prepare the DPR by October 15 with the help of Institute of Hydrology, Roorkee.

In fact, the water due to which Nainital is recognized, the same water becomes a headache for the residents here in the tourist season. To quench the thirst of the people, eight MLD water is extracted from Nainijheel every day. But in the tourist season, this quantity reaches 15 MLD, due to which the water level of the lake decreases significantly.

By the year 2055, Nainital will need 41 MLD of water.

According to Anil Baluni, the thirst of Nainital is being quenched in some way with eight MLD water. But by the year 2055, Nainital will require 41 MLD of water. In such a situation, the dependence of Naini Lake for water will have to be reduced. A water supply plan will have to be made from the Kosi river. He asked the officials to make a DPR and send it to them by including this action plan in immediate priority. He said that for this important project, funding will be made from the Government of India. Funds will be available from the government’s NHP (National Hydro Project).

At the same time, Nainital MP Ajay Bhatt said that there is a plan to build a big barrage in the Kosi river in Khairna-Garampani. From where according to the primary survey, 24 km long drinking water line will be laid to bring water from Kosi river (Garmpani) to Nainital. 1.53 MCM water will be stored from the river. Four pumping stations will be built at Baderi, Ratighat, Padli and Doonikhal to transport drinking water from Kosi river to Nainital. He said that 120 meters long and 12 meters high artificial lake would be created near Baderi bridge to store water, in which water would be stored and lifted through pumping stations and supplied to Nainital city through pipeline.
