Earlier this month, the ministry had announced that the Center has constituted an expert group on the issue headed by eminent economist and director of the Institute of Economic Growth Professor Ajit Mishra. This group will give technical information and recommendations for fixing minimum wages and wages. The term of office is three years.
The minimum wage is different for different categories of workers. Minimum wage at the national level refers to a wage that is applicable to all categories of workers throughout the country. The Expert Group has been constituted for a period of three years from the date of notification.

The members of the expert group include Professor Tarika Chakraborty (IIM Kolkata), Anushree Sinha (Senior Fellow, National Council of Applied Economic Research), Vibha Bhalla (Joint Secretary) H Srinivas (Director General, VV Giri National Labor Institute).
