India needs about 400,000 charging stations to meet the requirement of 2 million electric vehicles on the roads in the next five years i.e. by the year 2026. This was mentioned in the Grant Thornton Bharat-Ficci report last week. According to the EV industry body- Society of Manufacturers of Electric Vehicles, India has 1,800 charging stations for about 16,200 electric cars as of March 2021. “Overall, EV infrastructure is tightly linked with EV and charging station characteristics, battery technologies and power markets,” the report said.
