I was very happy to play the character of a boxer in ‘Toofan’: Farhan Akhtar

Mumbai. Bollywood actor Farhan Akhtar on Wednesday said he was “extremely happy” to play the role of a boxer in the upcoming film “Toofan”. He said that it is a character that reminds him of Munna, the flamboyant character of Aamir Khan in the 1995 hit film ‘Rangeela’ who sold movie tickets in the black market.

Khan worked with Akhtar in his directorial debut ‘Dil Chahta Hai’ 20 years ago. He said that he always wondered how much fun it would be for a superstar to play a character who would have a non-caring attitude.

Akhtar said at the film’s online press conference, “I enjoyed playing a casually laid-back character like Aziz Ali. When I saw Aamir Khan in ‘Rangeela’, I thought how much fun he must have played a character who can say what he feels like. Has a carefree attitude. I was very happy when I got the opportunity to do this film.

The film will be released on July 16 on Amazon Prime Video. Hailed as an inspiring sports drama by a goon named Aziz Ali aka Ajju Bhai from Dongri Ki Sadan, ‘Toofan’ is set against the backdrop of boxing and narrates the story of its main character’s failure and a spectacular comeback.

Filmed in South Mumbai’s Nagpada, Toofan is directed by Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra and scripted by Anjum Rajabali and Vijay Maurya. Akhtar credits co-actor Hussain Dalal, who hails from Nagpada, for helping him get into the character. The actor also thanked the people of Nagpada.
