Sources told CNBC-TV18 that the finance ministry is hopeful that the technical issues of the new income tax portal will be sorted out soon and the website will work normally by the first week of August. Sources said the finance ministry and software services company Infosys are taking daily updates on the reforms.
Infosys got the contract in the year 2019
Infosys was awarded the contract in 2019 to develop the next generation income tax filing system. The objective behind this was to reduce the return scrutiny time from 63 days to one day and speed up the refund process.

The new portal was started on 7th June
The new income tax portal www.incometax.gov.in (www.incometax.gov.in) was launched with great enthusiasm on 7th June. There are technical problems on the portal since the beginning. Due to this, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman had a meeting with Infosys officials on 22 June. Infosys has prepared this new website.
Center also accepted in Parliament about the flaws in the new ITR portal
At the same time, the Central Government has accepted in Parliament that there are many flaws in the new portal. The Center said that till now 700 e-mails have been received related to the new e-filing portal of the Income Tax Department. In these, more than 2000 complaints have been received. Users are facing more than 90 different types of problems in the new e-filing website. Minister of State for Finance Pankaj Chaudhary said in a written reply in the Rajya Sabha that Infosys, the company that created the new e-filing website, has been informed about the difficulties being faced in the functioning of the portal. Infosys has said that continuous work is being done to remove the problems coming in the new website of Income Tax Department.
