Nainital. The High Court ordered a CBI inquiry into the death of a prisoner, Pravesh Kumar, after being beaten up in Haldwani Jail on March 6. The court of Justice Ravindra Maithani also ordered the immediate removal of SSP Nainital. Along with this, the court ordered the immediate removal of the CO as baseless, terming the investigation report of the investigating officer i.e. the CO of Haldwani, and ordered that the four accused prisoners of this case should also be removed from the Haldwani jail.

Let us tell you that Pravesh Kumar of Haldwani was arrested on March 5 in the molestation case, after which on March 6, Pravesh’s family members were informed about the death due to illness. On March 13, another prisoner, Rahul Srivastava, informed the wife of the deceased that Pravesh died after being beaten up by four prisoners. The wife of the deceased Pravesh Kumar filed a complaint in this matter from Kotwali to SSP but the FIR could not be registered.

On May 26, on Bharti’s petition, the trial court had ordered the registration of a case against the four accused. After this, after not taking action, Bharti filed a petition in the High Court and demanded a CBI inquiry into the entire case against the accused policemen. During the last hearing, the court had asked the SSP under which provisions did the SSP get the CO investigated? And is there any law that an FIR cannot be made during magisterial inquiry? When the SSP could not give a satisfactory answer in the court, the court issued orders for a CBI inquiry.
