Gold Hallmarking News: Isn’t it necessary to hallmark on gold by June 2022? The government gave this answer

Recently a message is going viral, in which it is being claimed that the central government has issued an order to withdraw the mandatory hallmarking system on gold jewellery. This message was becoming increasingly viral, after which its fact-check was done by PIB to find out its truth. The government has denied reports like withdrawing the hallmarking of gold jewellery.

What is the truth of the news?
It is being claimed by adding a fake headline to a letter that hallmarking is being stopped till June 2022 due to #Covid. PIBFactCheck has called this claim fake. Also said, hallmarking has been made mandatory by the Government of India on June 16, 2021.

The government said that mandatory ‘hallmarking’ on gold jewelery is being implemented in a phased manner from June 16 and the circular that it is being said to be withdrawn is fake. In the first phase, 256 districts have been included. Hallmarking on gold jewelery is a certification of the purity of the precious metal. It was voluntary till now.

Gold hallmarking started in 256 districts
The government has identified 256 districts in 28 states and union territories for implementation of the first phase of gold hallmarking. In the list of states, maximum 24 districts have been identified from Tamil Nadu for implementation of mandatory gold hallmarking. It is followed by Gujarat 23 districts and Maharashtra 22 districts. Around 19 districts in West Bengal and Uttar Pradesh have been identified for mandatory hallmarking of gold.
