New Delhi. Indian mining company Vedanta Limited has this year opened a new iron ore mine at the Black Mountain Mine (BMM) in the mineral-rich Northern Cape province of South Africa. According to Vedanta Zinc International (VZI), it has taken steps to develop a 3 million tonne per annum iron ore project. It is expected to increase significantly in the current financial year after successful commissioning of production from a pilot plant.
VZI Business Head Laxman Shekhawat said on Tuesday, “The iron ore project will add another remarkable product line to VZI BMM operations and offer our customers best-in-class products.”
“The first part of the project will utilize raw materials from existing operations and produce high grade iron ore and dense medium separation products (DMS), which will be used for steel and coal industries respectively,” Shekhawat said.
He said that the project will help make the existing VZI BMM operations globally competitive and economical.
