New Delhi. Due to the relaxation of lockdown restrictions and delay in monsoon, the country’s electricity consumption increased by about 12 percent to 125.51 billion units in July. This is almost equal to the pre-pandemic level. This information has been received from the data of the Ministry of Power. Electricity consumption in July 2020 was 112.14 billion units. This is only slightly less than the figure of 116.48 billion units before the pandemic i.e. July, 2019.
Experts say that the main reason for the improvement in power demand in July is the delay in monsoon and the pick-up in economic activity after the relaxation of curbs by the states. He said that apart from the demand for electricity, consumption has also reached pre-Covid-19 levels in July. It is expected to improve further in the coming months.

Industrial and commercial demand for electricity was hit by curbs imposed by states from April this year. Experts say that industrial and commercial demand for electricity will definitely improve from July after the reduction in the cases of Kovid-19 and the relaxation of lockdown restrictions by the states.
The highest power supply in a day was 200.57 GW
The peak power demand or maximum power supply in a day was 200.57 GW. It was recorded on July 7, 2021. Apart from this, daily electricity consumption also increased to an all-time high of 4508 million units on July 7. The peak power demand for the entire month of July, 2020 was 170.40 GW.
