Australia’s High Commissioner to India Barry O’Farrell said that he is in touch with his close partners and allies regarding developments in Afghanistan. He said that the situation in Afghanistan is likely to be discussed during the ministerial talks between India and Australia. Australian Foreign Minister Maris Payne and Defense Minister Peter Dutton will be visiting India from September 10-12 for talks with their Indian counterparts. Farrell said that Australia wants to take the relationship with India further. The two senior Australian ministers are visiting in the backdrop of the Taliban seizing power in Afghanistan. The issue is likely to be discussed in separate meetings of External Affairs Minister Jaishankar and Defense Minister Rajnath Singh with their counterparts.

He noted the non-inclusion of any representatives of the Hazara community as well as other minorities, except women and members of the previous government, in the interim government set up by the Taliban. The high commissioner also mentioned the inclusion of members of the Haqqani network, who were included in the UN list of terrorists.
