Number of subscribers of pension schemes increased to 4.63 crore by September: PFRDA pmgkp

New Delhi . According to the Pension Fund Regulatory and Development Authority (PFRDA), the number of subscribers of various pension schemes increased by 24 percent to 4.63 crore by the end of September 2021. The pension regulator said in a statement that in the same month a year ago, the total number of subscribers in pension schemes regulated by PFRDA stood at 3.74 crore.

The Assets Under Management (AUM) in various pension schemes regulated by PFRDA increased by 34.84 per cent to Rs 6,67,379 crore as on September 30 from Rs 4,94,930 crore at the end of September 2020.

Total customers 312.94 lakhs
PFRDA operates two pension schemes – National Pension System (NPS) and Atal Pension Yojana (APY). As per PFRDA data, the total number of subscribers under APY grew by 32.13 per cent to 312.94 lakh as of September 30, 2021.

APY jumps 33% in August
According to the latest PFRDA data, the subscriber base of APY grew by 33.20 percent to 304.51 lakh by August 2021. On the basis of assets, till August, the total pension asset under management of both the schemes stood at Rs 6,47,621 crore. It has jumped 32.91 percent on a yearly basis. Out of this, the asset under APY became Rs 18,059 crore. This is an increase of about 33 percent compared to a year ago.

Two big schemes of NPS, APY pension
NPS and APY are being promoted by the government to increase the coverage of pension societies in the country and to bring more and more people under the ambit of pension. Both these schemes are managed by PFRDA. NPS is a pension scheme run keeping in mind the people working in the organized sector. This includes employees of central and state governments, autonomous organizations, private companies and employees of other institutions. All of them can take NPS.

On the other hand, the Atal Pension Yojana (APY) was started keeping in mind the workers of the unorganized sector. In this, depending on the contribution, there is a guarantee of 1000 to 5000 rupees monthly pension. The unorganized sector generates maximum employment in the country.
