New Delhi. So far, more than two crore Income Tax Returns (ITR Filing) have been filed for the financial year 2020-21 through the new Income Tax Portal. The Income Tax Department said that now the problems related to the new IT portal have been resolved to a large extent. At the same time, the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) has appealed to the taxpayers to file income tax returns for the financial year 2020-21 at the earliest. Also told that all ITRs have been made available for e-filing.

E-verification of 1.70 crore ITR done

The CBDT said that ITR-1 and 4 account for 86 per cent of the more than two crore ITRs filed on the new portal for the financial year 2021-22. Of these, e-verification of more than 1.70 crore returns has also been done. Of these, 1.49 crore returns have been verified through Aadhar Card based One Time Password (OTP). Explain that the process of e-verification through Aadhar card OTP and other methods is necessary for the department to initiate the process of ITR and issue of refund.

More than 36 lakh refunds issued
More than 1.06 crore ITRs out of verified ITR-1 and 4 have been processed. More than 36.22 lakh refunds have been issued for the assessment year 2021-22. Processing of ITR-2 and 3 will be started soon. The new portal was launched on 7 June 2021 and in the initial period taxpayers had reported irregularities in the functioning of the portal. The CBDT said that several technical issues have been resolved and the performance of the portal has stabilized to a great extent. The board said that till October 13, more than 13.44 crore taxpayers have logged in and about 54.70 lakh taxpayers have availed the facility of recovering their passwords.
