EU supports One China policy, advises to resolve dispute through talks

Brussels, The European Union has advised China to resolve mutual differences through dialogue, amid strained US-China relations after Nancy Pelosi’s visit to Taiwan. After the Taiwan tour, this union of 29 countries of Europe had called an immediate meeting. Following the meeting, the European Union called on Wednesday to keep the doors of dialogue with China open to resolve the tensions arising out of US House of Representatives Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s visit to Taiwan through dialogue and avoid miscalculations.

The EU spokesman told news agency Reuters that the union’s interest is in maintaining peace and status quo in the Taiwan Strait. He further said that he encourages peaceful resolution of cross-strait issues. Tension should be resolved through dialogue. Appropriate channels of dialogue should be kept open to reduce the risk of miscalculation.

The European Union is a supporter of the One China policy
The spokesman clarified that the EU is a supporter of China’s One China policy. He said that the union recognizes the government of the People’s Republic of China as the sole legal government of China and that they do not recognize Taiwan as an independent state.

Although the US has also made it clear on several occasions that it is also not in favor of Taiwan’s independence, but it is a strong supporter of Taiwan’s democratic political system. America has said that if China tries to destroy it, America will stand with Taiwan.
