Almora. These days in the cultural city of Almora, people of the Muslim community are making tajiyas. We will tell you in this news, why are freshies made and how they are prepared. These Tajis have been being made in Almora for many years, which are still made here. On Muharram (Muharram 2022) Tajias are made in the memory of Hazrat Imam Hassan Hussain.

The Tajias of Almora are famous throughout Kumaon. In this, the young artists of Almora work hard to make Tajia overnight. Most of the craft work is done in this. In this, fresh paper is made by cutting paper. These tazias are made at five places in Almora, in which these tazias are made in Lala Bazar, Niyazganj, Kachari Bazar, Thana Bazar and Bhyarkhola. These Tajis are carried in the form of weeds in the markets and then buried in Karbala.

The new calendar of the people of the Muslim community has started from July 31, which is called ‘Muharram month’. In the month of Muharram, alam is taken out by the Muslim community on the 5th and 7th of the month of Muharram. Mehndi (small crown) is taken out on the 7th. Tajias are taken out on 9th of Muharram and on 10th of Muharram, the people of Muslim community take out the Tajias from their Imambara and move them all over the city and then they are buried in Karbala.

Young artist Mohammad Irfan told that he comes to make these Tajis for many years. In this, big artists teach and tell them. Till late in the night, all of them are engaged in the manufacture of these Tajis. It takes a lot of hard work and he loves to make these tazis.

Here local resident Yusuf Tiwari told that if seen, these Tajis have been made in Almora since the time of Raja Baz Bahadur Chand. These fresh delicacies of Almora have special significance. You will not find such freshies made in Almora anywhere else. Craft work is done in this which will not be seen in the whole of India. Young artists of Almora are engaged in making these Tajis. Their demand from the government is that these freshies should be recognized as ‘craft festival’.
