Kolkata. Indian goalkeeper Gurpreet Singh is not too excited about the presence of lower-ranked rivals in his group in the final round of the Asian Cup football qualifiers. He said the hosts will have to show respect to their opponents when they begin their campaign on June 8. Also, a ruthless attitude will have to be adopted against them. India has been placed in Group D along with lower-ranked Hong Kong (147), Afghanistan (150) and Cambodia (171).

Gurpreet said, of course, he is also preparing for these 3 matches and everyone can understand that he has worked hard like us. After starting the campaign against Cambodia, India has to face Afghanistan on 11 June and then Hong Kong on 14 June. There are 11 places at stake in the qualifiers for the third and final round of the Asian Cup 2023. A total of 24 teams are participating in the qualifiers which are divided into 6 groups of four teams. Competitions in all six groups are taking place in different countries of the continent.

The 6 group winners and the 5 best placed second team will qualify for the main tournament. Gurpreet said, ‘We have to make sure that we get on the field to get the result. I believe that our team from this group should be such that it gets a place in the AFC Asian Cup 2023. Sunil Chhetri and his team were knocked out of the group stage of the 2019 Asian Cup. The team now has a chance to qualify for the continent’s top competition from Group D again.
