Muharram is celebrated in his memory.

Let us tell you that the month of Muharram starts exactly 20 days after Eid-ul-Azha. Whereas on the 10th of Muharram, all Shia Muslim communities remember the martyrdom of Imam Hussain by raising tazia.

Know why the battle of Karbala took place?
The Battle of Karbala is an important event in human history. It has not only been a battle but has also been a guide to all aspects of life. The foundation of this war was laid after the death of Hazrat Muhammad Mustafa, when some people did not like Imam Ali to become the Caliph, then many wars took place. Ali was martyred, then his successor ie his son Imam Hasan became the Khalifa. He too was martyred.

At that time the evil and tyrannical Yazid forcibly seized the throne and became the ruler and started oppressing the people. He used to do un-Islamic work under his rule. Yazid wanted Hussain to be with him. He knew that if Hussain joined him, the whole of Islam would fall within his grasp. Despite lakhs of efforts, Hussain did not accept any of his words.

Imam Hussain had this knowledge
Yazid made a plan to stop Hussain. On May 4, 680 AD, Imam Hussein left his home in Medina and reached the city of Mecca, where he wanted to perform Hajj, but he came to know that enemies could come in the guise of Hajis and kill them. Hussein never wanted that there should be bloodshed in a holy place like Kaaba, so Imam Hussein changed his mind for Hajj and headed towards the city of Kufa. Suddenly on the way the enemy army surrounded them and brought them to Karbala, whose commander of Lashkar was Janab Hur.

On the way, the water of Hur’s Lashkar people ran out and everyone started getting mad with thirst, so Imam Hussain gave water to not only the army of enemies but even their animals from his side. Seeing this humanity, Sir Hur fell in love with Imam Hussain and first sacrificed himself on behalf of Imam Hussain in the battle of Karbala.

He first bought the land on which Imam Hussain set up his tents in Karbala. Yazid was continuously pressurizing Imam Hussain by sending his chieftains so that Hussain would obey him. When Imam Hussein refused to accept Yazid’s conditions, the enemies finally stopped water from entering Hussein’s camps.

After passing three days, when the children of the Imam’s family started suffering from thirst, Hussein asked for water from the Yazidi army, the enemy refused to give water. The enemies thought that Imam Hussain would break out of thirst and would accept all our conditions. When Hussain did not listen to Yazid even after three days of thirst, the enemies started attacking Hussain’s camps. After this Imam Hussain asked the enemies for a night’s time and that whole night Imam Hussain and his family prayed to Allah and kept praying that my family, my friends may be martyred, but Allah’s Deen ‘Islam’, which Nana (Mohammed) had brought him, he was saved.

On October 10, 680 AD, the war broke out from the time of the morning prayers. It would not be right to call it a war, because on one side there was an army of lakhs, on the other side a family of 72 members and some of them were men. Imam Hussain was accompanied by only 75 or 80 men, including children from 6 months to 13 years. 72 people were martyred in Karbala in saving the foundation of Islam, in which the enemies hit a three-pointed arrow on the neck of 6-month-old child Ali Asghar. A 13-year-old child, Hazrat Qasim, was trampled on the tops of horses while alive, and a seven-year-old and eight-month-old child, Aun-Muhammad, was killed by a sword.

Tarannum, who belongs to Azadara i.e. Shia Muslim community, told that Muharram is celebrated in memory of the martyrdom of Imam Hussain and his companions during the war in Karbala. In the days of Muharram, people of the Shia community wearing black robes take out Tazia and mourn while mourning.
