UN Mission: In Congo, the Indian Army repulsed the attackers who came to loot the UN office

kinshasa, The Indian Army, deployed under the UN peacekeeping mission in the African country of Congo, has thwarted an attempt to loot. Actually some armed men were trying to rob a hospital and United Nations property.

In a statement, Indian Army officials said Indian troops foiled attempts to rob bases and a large hospital operated by the Indian Army.

Indian soldiers also ensured the security of UN personnel and property at the scene. There are reports that some UN office premises have been vandalized, which the military is monitoring.

Let us tell you that the Indian Army personnel are posted in MONUSCO (United Nations Organization Stabilization Mission in the Democratic Republic of the Congo) under the United Nations Mission.

More than 2 lakh Indian soldiers have given service
Since 1948 till now, more than 2 lakh soldiers have served in the peacekeeping force. At present, 5,581 Indian soldiers are deployed under UN missions across the world. Indian soldiers are stationed in 8 of the 14 missions being run by the United Nations around the world.

It is to be noted that in 2007, India became the first country to deploy a full women contingent in UN peacekeeping missions.

India has been actively participating in UN peacekeeping missions. India is the second largest military (1,888) and fifth largest (139) police-contributing country in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (MONUSCO).
